Why Choose the UW HIMT Program?

The health information field is changing—and right now, you have a tremendous opportunity to advance your career and lead the way in this fast-growing segment of healthcare.

Pick Your Track of Study

As a student, you’ll take core courses covering both health information management and technology. Then, you’ll choose to specialize in health information management (HIM) or health information technology (HIT). As a HIM student, you’ll learn about human resource management, leadership, and strategic planning. As a HIT student, you’ll gain skills in programming, data security, and IT.

Qualify for Industry Credentials

The UW HIMT program is CAHIIM accredited, which means upon completing your degree, you’re qualified to sit for industry credentialing exams like the RHIA to become a registered health information administrator. CAHIIM accreditation is your assurance that our program meets the rigorous academic quality and competency standards established by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

 Benefit from Flexible Online Learning

Course content is accessible online from any device. Watch lectures, participate in online forums with classmates, and do homework whenever it’s convenient for you. You’ll receive personal attention from your instructors as they deliver lessons, direct you through activities, and answer your questions. Students often say the online format is a big factor in their ability to earn a degree.

Earn a Recognized and Respected UW Degree

Where you get your degree is important. The University of Wisconsin System is one of the largest and most widely respected public higher education institutions in the country. Our online HIMT courses are created and taught by the same faculty as their face-to-face counterparts—using the same rigorous content and standards. That means you’ll graduate with the same recognized and respected UW degree as students who attend class on campus.
