This capstone discusses the history of xylene, the health issues associated, and compare the efficacy of two alternatives, Slide Brite (commercial xylene alternative), and Clear Choice (a new product not yet commercially available), to xylene in tissue processing and staining of animal tissue. The differences will be evaluated in bright field imaging of hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) and 3 special stains (GMS, PAS, and Brown and Hopps).
