Becoming a Breastfeeding-Friendly Campus

“The driving question for the project was: What steps need to be completed for the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point (UWSP) to be recognized as a breastfeeding friendly campus? Research portrays that a common barrier to breastfeeding is returning to work/school (Burns & Triandafilidis, 2019). Thus, this project aims to ease the transition of breastfeeding when returning to work/school via following the Portage County Breastfeeding Coalition’s criteria for becoming a breastfeeding friendly campus.
This project began with Dr. Scovill receiving a grant to further UWSP’s breastfeeding efforts. Throughout the semester, a breastfeeding friendly policy was initiated, 2 new lactation rooms were created (UWSP now has 6 total rooms), breastfeeding resources were developed and a communication plan was established to further build a supportive culture as time goes on.
