Creating a Culture of Wellness in Law Enforcement
Program: Health and Wellness Management
Host Company: Clermont County Sheriff's Office
Location: Batavia, Ohio (onsite)
Student: Leah Boerger
The focus of this project was to partner with a small suburban law enforcement office and correctional facility to assess the perceived health risks and wellness program interests and delivery preferences of the employees and review best practices in existing law enforcement agencies across the country to recommend next steps for the agency to begin to create a culture of wellness.
“This was a wonderful opportunity to work with a law enforcement agency to discover the perceived health risks, needs and interests in wellness programming among employees. After researching best practices in wellness among other law enforcement agencies across the United States, several recommendations were made to the agency to begin to create a culture of wellness. I have been working with the agency on a voluntary basis since the Spring of 2020 to implement recommendations and findings from the project. We are working to improve: wellness resources available to employees, the promotion of resources and the introduction of resources in the on-boarding process for new hires. We have secured several external partners willing to provide low to no cost services and discounts on wellness services for employees. We have also created an internal wellness committee made up of volunteers from each division of the agency who want to support and promote use of wellness resources and improve overall wellness at the agency.”
