Developing a more efficient Process to inform providers of delinquent documentation
Program: Health Information Management Technology Bachelor's Completion
Host Company: Watertown Regional Medical Center
Location: Watertown, Wisconsin (onsite)
Student: Mariah Rathkamp
The main objective of this project is to increase the visibility of deficient documentation warnings to providers and decrease the number of deficient documentations as well as the time it takes to get the providers up to date. The process of entering manual deficiencies needs to be more efficient. Currently, at Watertown Regional Hospital, all provider notification of late documentation is sent to them through a templated letter from the health information team to the provider. Providers do not always check their organization email or use alternative emails which can lead to providers not completing documentation in a timely manner and may cause them to be suspended. Since all providers are required to access their desktop, documentation of delinquency should be available on the provider desktop to ensure that they can see the delinquencies and rectify them in a timely manner. Concurrently, the current process for the HIM team to find and manually enter deficiencies are cumbersome and need to be more streamlined so that one employee is capable to handling this task alone. Finally, when time allows, side projects will be worked on, at the discretion of the site supervisor.
