The objective of this remote project is to compare inpatient discharges to other hospitals in the region, by breaking inpatient discharges by specialties. With the information that I gather, I will present my findings and provide an analysis that determines the health care organization’s need for physicians by specialty based on the service area population, the underlying health needs of the community, and the program-specific targeted market shares that reflect overall strategic goals. A comparison of this information will help identify physician specialties that are underrepresented. The analysis can also identify geographic regions that are not well covered by health care system. A population-based demand methodology can estimate the potential demand for a new or enhanced service based on the incidence of the underlying disease in the population and the percentage of those patients who might reasonably seek treatment within the health care organization. This information can assist St. Mary’s in better predicting their ability to grow.
