Hands on experience in the different HIM departments, such as Scanning, ROI, Coding, Registries and the EPIC system.

1. Overview of the Internship Project/Executive Summary

For my Capstone Project I was at Froedtert’s Hartford location majority of the time. There were a few days where I was at Frodtert Hospital as well as Community Memorial Hospital. I completed a total of 80 hours over the semester. I got a lot of hands on experience in the different HIM departments, such as Scanning, ROI, Coding, Registries and the EPIC system. The project I was assigned during my time at Froedtert was the HIM Scout Intranet Page. This page is found on the Froedtert’s employee page.

2. Content of the Project

2.1 Breakdown of major tasks in the project

  • Creating a Gantt chart to keep me on track with the project.
  • Meeting with all the managers in the HIM department to see what they would like on their page.
  • Meeting with Julie often to assure that I am on the right path.
  • Putting the PowerPoint together.
  • Finalizing the project and presenting to management.

2.2 Milestones and Deliverables (details in appendixes)

  • I accomplished many milestones, a huge milestone for me was presenting the project in front of all the managers at Froedtert’s Hartford location. It was very nerve racking but I did it and they all loved my work, I’m proud to say that my hard work paid off
  • Describe how you, in any way, took on leadership roles in managing the activities of your capstone project and/or of other site-related activities.
  • It was up to me to take this project and really create something that everyone would love and something that was also easy to use. I had to take the initiative on this project because this was something I was doing 100% by myself. I had to make sure that I met with all of management and make sure that I was creating a product that everyone would love.
  • Describe how you, in any way, applied the information technology acquired in your HIMT program on completing your project and/or on other site-related initiatives.
  • There were many times when on site that I referred back to my HIMT classes. Over my three years in the HIMT program I have gained a lot of knowledge and there were even certain things I forgot about until it was brought up in the internship and rang a bell in my head that I indeed had learned about this before.
