My internship at SCA Health has been an incredibly rewarding experience, especially under the guidance and support of my site supervisor, Jillian. I had the opportunity to complete my capstone project within my current role at the organization, allowing me to make meaningful contributions to the Revenue Cycle Operations (RCO) department. The focus of my capstone project was to enhance and develop Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) center documents to improve accuracy and efficiency in coding and billing practices. The primary objective was to ensure that all guidelines, policies, and knowledge-based information were standardized and consistently followed across the organization to reduce errors and optimize claim processing. The update of 44 SOPs includes critical elements such as center name and region, contact information, systems currently in use, coding locations details, carrier specific rules, general knowledge, and protocols relevant to each center. By consolidating and standardizing this information the SOPs serve as a reference which improves the accuracy and timeliness of data entry for claims. By doing this not only does it help streamline information, but also supports quicker reimbursements and fewer claim denials. Additionally, having well-organized and up-to-date SOPs will make it significantly easier for team members to locate essential information, adapt to updates, and maintain compliance with evolving business needs.
