Improving Communication and Patient Safety for Telemetry Patients

Program: Health Information Management Technology Bachelor's Completion

In my capstone project at SAVAHCS, I addressed workflow inefficiencies and patient safety problems with telemetry-monitored patients. During the internship, I identified that non-certified transporters were delaying appointments and physicians were pausing telemetry monitoring for patient transport, contrary to SOP guidelines. As part of my project, I developed HIPAA-compliant signage for telemetry patients, improved staff communication and educational pamphlets for patients, and created pre- and post-pilot surveys to see how the intervention worked. The collaboration of Nurse managers, committees, and union reps was followed, and patients were safe.
