Medical Transcriptionist Productivity

The Transcription Department is in need a way to track, measure and analyze the productivity of their in-house and remote transcriptionist. The capstone project for my HIMT degree was conducted with my current employer Beloit Health System under the guidance of Jean Brosier, Director of HIM. The project will entail monitoring the productivity of Medical Transcriptionist using personal productivity logs and data manually extracted from electronic reports created in EMon. This extracted data will be used to ensure that transcriptionists are meeting productivity standards and to evaluate trends in the percentage of inactive time to low productivity. Given that most of the transcriptionist work is done virtually, this project has given me insight into how essential it is to have robust reporting methods for HIM Managers to measure and manage staff productivity. It is important to note that this project was not solely intended to seek out those transcriptionists that have low productivity numbers but also to acknowledge those transcriptionists that meet or exceed productivity standards.
