Creating a database is a team effort and although one might think of it as a solo project it really requires everyone that interacts with the data to arrive at a thorough and user-friendly software program. While my project was just a tiny portion of data available to me it represents what can be done on a much bigger scale when medicine and IT come together.
Content of the Project
- Using Population Assessment data from Epic’s “Claims Universe” I need to design a data warehouse that can be navigated and ultimately find the best way to target the top claims groups. I will be using NCQA guidelines QI5: Complex Case Management.
- The main objectives of the project are to classify the data, which already are divided into SQL elements and tables, so that it can be searched with keywords. The population data will need to be narrowed down to specific diseases and comorbidities as well as by diagnosis.
- The major tasks and deliverable are to construct a searchable database that can isolate claims by certain features. This has already been done with SQL elements but the large Excel data file requires more specific searchable attributes such as pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.
It is a remote capstone.
