Prairie Plant Monitoring at Hawthorn Glen
Program: Biodiversity Conservation & Management Master's Degree

Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin (remote)

The goal of my capstone project was to aid my host organization in preparing Field Maps prompts that can be taken to the field in order to monitor for plants. My project specifically looked at creating prompts and then monitoring one of the ecosystems at the site I chose, Hawthorn Glen. I chose to monitor the prairie as it was smaller in size but very diverse. I used a meandering survey type and collected all species present, both native and invasive. Objectives included accurate and precise data collected in the prairie, figures created for the staff at Hawthorn Glen to use for plant management, but also training purposes so they can begin to collect plant data!
