My capstone project examines the design, installation, and ecological function of a residential native rain garden as a small-scale approach to improving urban biodiversity and stormwater management. The project objective is to evaluate how a thoughtfully designed native landscape can provide habitat benefits, support pollinator and amphibian communities, and reduce localized stormwater impacts within a suburban residential setting. The project documents the planning process, site assessment, plant selection, construction methods, and adaptive management practices used to transform a conventional lawn area into a multifunctional native landscape. By demonstrating the ecological value of small residential interventions, this project explores how individual properties can contribute to broader urban conservation and watershed improvement goals.
