Review and Forecast of Population Dynamics in Brazil and Mexico (Impacts of AI and automation)

Program: Data Science Master's
Location: Not Specified (remote)
Student: Daniel James Clements

The project investigates how population growth in Mexico and Brazil is affected by artificial intelligence and automation (AIA). AIA is being rapidly adopted in both societies, and its promise as an agent for productivity and labor relief is aligned with their population dynamics. Research and data analysis are conducted to correlate population change and AIA adoption in Brazil and Mexico. Additionally, environmental consequences and how AIA changes human reproduction needs in both nations are evaluated.

Other objectives include separating out confounding variables to evaluate population differences in a more sensitive manner, and modeling population change into the near future with and without AIA expansion.

Both structured and unstructured data and information are evaluated.  This makes the mode of research more qualitative and holistic than a typical data-driven study. For example, prevalent attitudes, beliefs, and personal and social planning are made relevant. Brazil and Mexico have Portuguese and Spanish, respectively, as primary official languages. Therefore, many of the study research articles, data, and information must be interpreted and translated.
