Sustainability in the Hospitality Industry

For my Capstone Project, I investigated sustainability in the hospitality industry. In light of all the changes businesses made throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and will continue to make as society attempts to return to normal, more pressure is being put on industries to adapt operating practices to be more responsible and sustainable. Consumer demand for members of the hospitality industry to make sustainable changes was explored. Throughout the project, I researched the history of sustainability and ecotourism in the hospitality industry. Further research examined what major hotel chains have already done in efforts to be more sustainable and the benefits associated with these changes. Benefits range from cost savings for improved efficiency to consumer loyalty to brands making responsible changes. Sustainable aspects will focus on waste reduction, energy savings, diversity, community outreach and more.
