Understanding the Relationship Between Freeze Curves and Post-Thaw Evaluation of Bovine Semen
Program: Applied Biotechnology Master's Degree — Quality Assurance and Compliance
Host Company: PEAK Genetics
Location: Shawano, Wisconsin (onsite)
Student: Lizzie Ketchum
The purpose of this project is to determine whether post-thaw sperm quality can be improved using an updated freeze curve. This project will address the unchanged freeze curve to see if changing the parameters will allow for better post-thaw results for bovine semen. Improving freezing processes at PEAK locations will allow for a better product for customers, which could lead to better pregnancy rates in cattle. This will increase the production of dairy and beef products, which is necessary to help feed more people. In turn, this project is important to discuss other options to change the freeze curve that is being currently used at PEAK facilities.
