My project was to update a website for an adult ice hockey league to provide additional features and customization for teams and players that use the site. The website had basic features such as schedules, team and player rosters, scores, and stat sheets. My objective was to enhance the website with additional features that would allow further engagement and interaction for teams/players.
Since the league is sponsored by the county that hosts it, and some content was undesirable to change or modify since it was representative of the county, my resolution was to include an embeddable login to a separate website service which already had the capacity to include or implement many of the features which were desired. This allowed me to add whatever features that were desired in a separate site which was accessible via a Team’s page without modifying the original website. By using their Google login or an account created specifically for the external site, users can navigate to their team’s page and access the additional features once logged in.
Many of the features added were to enhance community engagement by allowing more interaction through the external site. These include features such as team announcements, private messaging, discussion posts, and customizable player profiles. Many teams are left to find and use third party sites or applications to facilitate team communications, but now they can use the league site itself for those needs.
