Wisconsin Well Woman Program Quality Improvement Processes: Improving the client experience

Program: Healthcare Administration Master's Degree
Host Company: Portage County Health and Human Services
Location: Stevens Point, Wisconsin (onsite)
Student: Shelbie Atwell

The Wisconsin Well Woman Program (WWWP) funds costs associated with preventative and diagnostic screenings for cervical and breast health. WWWP of Portage County has partnered with several area clinics in providing well woman services. The appointment process may be confusing due to program size and lack of awareness of its existence and provided benefits. Oftentimes, clients are told a clinic does not accept the coverage, clients are billed, and county staff need to intervene to assure clients’ accounts are not sent to collection agencies. Additionally, billing processes need to be repeated, resulting in duplication of work and delayed compensation. Improving processes associated with using the WWWP and improving the experience for both clients and provider by creating clear processes to educate, build awareness of the program, and make the process easy is the aim of this project. Process modifications will make preventive reproductive healthcare more accessible for current and future stakeholders. As providers, clients and the surrounding community gain a greater understanding of WWWP and the services provided, it is expected that retention, billing and utilization of services will improve.
