Meet the Faculty of the UW Bachelor’s in HIMT Program

The UW Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management and Technology faculty are either tenured faculty or working healthcare leaders serving as adjunct faculty. Specialty areas include nursing, information systems, public health, computer science, and biology. The program is a partnership of UW Online Collaboratives and UW–Green Bay, UW–Parkside, and UW–Stevens Point.


Meet the Faculty

John Bennett, PhD, JD, CHPS | UW–Parkside

John Bennett, PhD, is a visiting assistant professor at UW–Parkside.

During Dr. Bennett’s PhD program, he isolated several novel RNA molecules from Hodgkin’s lymphoma cell lines. He continued his work in cancer as an NIH postdoctoral fellow at Northwestern University. Dr. Bennett began teaching during his time as a postdoctoral fellow and has taught for nearly 20 years. He has a broad range of interests that come through in the classroom, beginning with molecular biology and microbiology, and including physiology and public health. Recently, John completed law school and earned his JD from Marquette University. He is an elder law attorney and has started a patient advocacy company.

Dr. Bennett received his PhD in molecular biology from Loyola University of Chicago, and graduated from UW–Stevens Point with majors in biology and chemistry and a minor in mathematics.

Misty Neal, MBA, RHIA | UW–Green Bay

Misty Neal is the HIMT Program Director for the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay campus. She has been an HIMT educator since 2014. Misty is certified as an RHIA and holds a master’s degree in business administration with healthcare focus from Albany State University.

Outside of teaching, her career has focused on management of the Health Information Management department at an acute care facility in South Georgia and serving on the GHIMA Board in various capacities.

Betty Rockendorf, MS, RHIA, CHPS, CHTS-IM | UW–Parkside

Betty Rockendorf, MS, RHIA, CHPS, CHTS-IM, is the HIMT Program Director and instructor at UW–Parkside.

Betty Rockendorf has extensive experience working in health care. She worked at Ministry Door County Medical Center in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin for 17+ years, where she served as Director of Health Information Management and Privacy Officer before joining the HIMT faculty in 2016. She was recently appointed to the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Council for Excellence in Education (CEE) and served as Past President and Board member for the Wisconsin Health Information Management Association (WHIMA).  Her knowledge, credentials, and extensive HIM network are employed frequently as she obtains Capstone placements for students in their final semester of the HIMT program.

Ms. Rockendorf earned her Master’s of Health Information Management from The College of St. Scholastica and her Bachelor’s degree in Business from the UW–Green Bay.
