In today’s fast-paced world, the need for comprehensive health and wellness management has never been more crucial.

The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically altered the workplace, leading to a renewed focus on physical, mental, and emotional health for employees and communities alike. There are many career opportunities in wellness management to help promote healthy choices, including roles as a community health worker, health education specialist, or workplace wellness manager.

If you’re looking to learn new skills while making a positive impact in your workplace or community, the University of Wisconsin Health and Wellness Management program gives you more options to work toward advancing your career in wellness.

What’s new with the Health and Wellness Management program?

The Fall 2024 semester introduced a revised curriculum for health and wellness management students. To accommodate the needs of the wellness professional and reflect the changing landscape of wellness management, new courses were added and existing courses were updated to keep pace with trends within the field. Course topics include building wellness leadership skills, using health data to make better decisions and guide policy, and employing evidence-based practice.

With new stackable certificates that offer more flexibility as you go, credentials can be earned in less time and are more affordable. If you only need to build skills in a particular area such as health data or leadership, completing the master’s degree isn’t required.

Admission requirements have also been simplified: Students with a bachelor’s degree in any discipline can apply, and there are no course prerequisites or test scores that you must submit.

What are stackable credentials?

One of the standout features of the program are the new stackable credentials, which allow you to tailor your education to your career aspirations. The program includes three stackable graduate certificates designed for flexibility and specialization. You can start with one certificate, later building upon that foundation to acquire additional skills or earn the master’s degree. The flexibility in course sequencing ensures that you can advance your education at your own pace.

Which certificates are available?

You can choose to earn the following certificates:

  • Graduate Certificate in Foundations of Health and Wellness: Introduces key principles and practices, emphasizing a holistic approach to health.
  • Graduate Certificate in Leadership in Health and Wellness: Focuses on developing leadership skills necessary for engaging teams and managing wellness initiatives effectively.
  • Graduate Certificate in Improving Health with Data and Policy: Teaches you to leverage data for health decisions and understand the regulatory landscape influencing health equity.

Each 9-credit certificate features three courses from the master’s degree curriculum. By completing all three certificates plus the program’s capstone project, students will earn the Master of Science in Health and Wellness Management, allowing you to build expertise over time.
